In Akmola Region, Kazakhstan, 12 people, including representatives of Ukraine, were convicted of illegal gold mining. This was reported on Wednesday, December 4, by the main transport prosecutor’s office of the republic on its official website.
It is noted that state prosecutors proved the guilt of 12 members of an organized criminal group (OCG) in the illegal mining and processing of gold ore, as well as in the artisanal production and sale of counterfeit gold jewelry through markets and stores.
“The criminal scheme was organized by a citizen of Kazakhstan with the involvement of citizens of Russia and Ukraine. The damage to the state amounted to more than 250 million tenge (almost 50 million rubles. – Ed.),” the report says.
It is specified that the sentence has not yet entered into force. Earlier, on October 21, the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the FSB of the Russian Federation reported that members of a group illegally mining gold had been detained in the Urals; nuggets and bars worth a total of 300 million rubles were found during searches.
